What is a Next Gen?
To us, Next Gens are students and young professionals who are committed to conserving the natural world and driving positive change for human societies.
Next Gens have been key actors with LEGADO since the beginning. And, working with our partners at Positive Tracks, they form a vital part of our next steps.
Positive Tracks is a national, youth-centric nonprofit that helps young people get active and give back using the power of sport and adventure. In 2015 Positive Tracks, together with our outdoor industry partners, doubled every dollar Next Gen Symposium participants fundraised for a total contribution of $90,000 for innovative integrated conservation. And they’ve been with us from the start (see below).

The 2015 Next Gen Symposium
A total of 33 African and North American Next Gen’s joined us in the field. Thanks to our partners, donors, and North American participants, all 20 African student participants received full scholarships.
The 2015 Lost Mountain (now called LEGADO) Next Gen Symposium participant team committed to raising $45,000 – every dollar of which will be invested in building new approaches to African conservation, starting with the peak that launched it all—Mount Namuli. Contribute to our ongoing Next Gen fundraising goals with a tax-deductible contribution.

They also hiked, camped, and climbed alongside the Lost Mountain Team, and Charlie was even on the second ascent of Majka and Kate’s Science Project alongside climbing guide Peter Doucette.
