Agatha Ogada:
Regional Director of Programs and Partnerships, Africa | Legado
Agatha Ogada comes to Legado as an accomplished leader in marine conservation, most recently serving as the Head of Partnerships in East Africa for Blue Ventures. With nearly fifteen years of dedicated experience in conservation, she has established herself as a leader in forming strategic partnerships with organizations and communities that share a commitment to sustainable management of their ecosystems. In her previous work, she played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing collaborations with aligned organizations and local communities.
Agatha’s work is characterized by strong focus on rights-based natural resource management, which underscores her belief in the importance of involving local community members, partners, and allies in decision-making processes that affect their livelihoods and environments.
Agatha advocates for collaborative approaches that ensure the voices of Indigenous communities are not only heard but actively influence management decisions, as she understands that the most effective climate justice strategies are those crafted in partnership with the people who inhabit these spaces. Because of this, she strives to amplify Indigenous and local stories and experiences. Nature serves as her classroom, and the people who regularly interact with these resource communities are her teachers, imparting essential knowledge and insights that inform her approach to climate justice. Through her work, she channels her energy into creating visibility for the fisher communities, providing them with a platform to share their invaluable narratives and contributions.
