LEGADO: RIBAUE
Mount Ribaue, in northeastern Mozambique, is home to both critical biodiversity and key communities of people working to make a life for themselves and their family. Ribaue is the first Tropical Important Plant Area to be designated in Mozambique and as a Sky Island makes up less than 3% of Mozambique landmass while being home to 30% of its biodiversity.
Legado: Ribaue was launched in late 2019 and seeks to create a thriving future for the Ribaue Mountains and the people who call them home by following our four strategic pillars:
LEADERSHIP
We partner with local mountain people to define what it is they want to create in their individual futures, and in the future for their communities, accelerating leadership and using behavior change science to do it.
FOOD SECURITY
We create viable alternatives for mountain people to make a living and feed their families– through deep agricultural support creating better crops, stronger value chains, and more dependable food and income.
OWNERSHIP
We support mountain communities to define and defend their own biodiversity values– water provisioning, pollination, carbon sequestration and more.
GUARDIANSHIP
We work with mountain communities in land titling and community conservation opportunities so that they can be the rightful guardians of their futures.
