Local people work toward land restoration in Indonesian Borneo | Planet Indonesia
In August 2024, Legado officially began a partnership with Planet Indonesia to bring Thriving Futures to the Indonesian province of West Kalimantan, located on the island of Borneo.
This partnership will work by integrating Legado’s Thriving Futures methodology into Planet Indonesia’s Core Model approach, which supports local solutions, needs, and values to enhance the potential of Indigenous and rural communities to restore and maintain the balance between humans and nature.
By bringing the two models together, we hope to strengthen Indigenous and local community leadership in biodiversity conservation in the area. In the first stages of our work together, Legado and Planet Indonesia will work alongside four Indigenous Dayak communities in Melawi to secure land rights, reduce poverty, and lead across their holistic priorities toward building a Thriving Future. This partnership launched in 2024, and we can’t wait to update you in the coming months on our efforts to bring Thriving Futures for the first time to Southeast Asia.

Exchange visit lays the foundation for partnership
In March 2024, Dr. Tita Alvira, Legado’s Senior Liaison Officer, and Emma Impink, Director of Strategy and Integration, traveled to West Kalimantan for an exchange visit with the Planet Indonesia team. Our organizations spent time sharing and learning about each other’s models and work, and began to solidify planning for an effective partnership.
