Flor Angela Zuniga was born in the Matsigenka Indigenous community of Monte Carmelo in the Peruvian Amazon. From an early age, her parents instilled in her the value of respect and taught her to cherish nature, agriculture, and Matsigenka identity and culture. She learned how to weave traditional patterns and create jewelry and other artisanal items from her mother, which are inspired by nature and the Matsigenka tradition. Flor is fluent in Matsigenka and Spanish.

Flor studied nursing and in 2019 she started working on different projects with community leaders that focused on the communities’ priorities and development. This work allowed her to get to know many communities and people in the region.

In 2021, she returned to Monte Carmelo and became secretary of the community’s artisans association board. In that role she supported other women artisans to succeed. As time went on, she held other positions and responsibilities as a leader in her community. Flor has also worked in reforestation projects working with community nurseries.

Flor enjoys being surrounded by nature and doing what she is passionate about: working from the heart, and, above all, working to help and support those in her community that need her. As part of the Futuros Vivos: Megantoni-Machiguenga team, she is very excited to continue building her legacy as a leader in her community and continue motivating others.
